Settlement Reached in SUV Accident
A $4.75 million dollar settlement was approved by the Board of Supervisors in L.A. County. The lawsuit settlement was reached on an SUV accident that occurred June of 08. The accident occurred when a sheriff deputy crashed into a smaller vehicle causing severe injury to a driver and passenger. According to allegations the deputy was speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol. The deputy was later convicted of drunk driving and sentenced to six months which was served at home.
According to reports, the driver of the vehicle was pulling out of a parking lot when the SUV crashed into the driver’s side of the vehicle. Both the passenger and the driver were knocked unconscious. The accident resulted in several injuries which included TBI, fractures and internal organ trauma. The twist in the case is the driver of the other vehicle was intoxicated and tests showed he was high on drugs.
While the case was settled, how the accident occurred is still a mystery. Neither party admitted guilt on who ran the red light and caused the accident. The deputy who pleaded no contest on two counts was allowed to keep his job. According to reports the man who had worked a night shift had a few beers before going to bed. When he woke up the next morning he was still intoxicated from the night before.
