An estimated $7.8 billion lawsuit settlement has been reached between PB PLC and lawyers representing victims of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. In 2010, BP set up a $20 billion dollar trust to help immediately compensate victims from the oil spill. This settlement was set up to allow victims to settle their claims without having to go into litigation. The trust which still has over $13 billion dollars has compensated more than 220,000 claims.
The claimants that have not already settled their claim will likely be compensated from the $7.8 billion. Under the recent lawsuit settlement, the victims who had not yet settled their claims under the trust would be able to either appear before the new administrators, or opt out of the settlement agreement and pursue claims against BP independently with their own legal representation.

According to reports the settlement announcement must be finalized by April 16, 2012.

The incident occurred in 2007 when Eveland collapsed on the sidelines during the first half of a football game.
